I believe that, even today, no one can deny that the amount of information on the Internet is almost endless. It all depends on how you choose to use it.

**《Python Web Scraping King – Selenium》** is a very practical book with a clear goal. It is written for people who want to learn about web scraping. The book starts with the basic structure of web pages, building a good foundation for further learning. It then uses short programming exercises to help readers gradually become familiar with how to locate elements on a web page. After finishing Chapter 4, I was already able to complete the web scraping tasks I needed to do at work.

In the second half of the book, the focus shifts to **automated testing** for web applications. This was actually the original purpose for which **Selenium** was developed. However, Selenium is so useful that using it only as a **web scraping** tool is already worth the price of the book. Automated testing for web applications is probably not yet widely used in Taiwan's IT industry, where manual testing is still more common. For web developers, learning more about it is definitely a good thing. You never know when it might come in handy.

As mentioned earlier, the Internet contains almost every kind of information you can imagine. With the help of web scraping, we can collect meaningful data for analysis and practical applications, and use it to improve business processes. In the future, this could become a common approach in many different industries. For people working as backend engineers, web scraping should be considered one of the basic skills worth having.

The saying “Reading ten thousand books is not as good as traveling ten thousand miles” isn’t hard to understand. But in life, opportunities to travel the world and broaden one’s horizons don’t come every day. At times like these, reading a collection of essays about life in foreign countries can also expand one’s perspective, turning an ordinary, penniless scholar into someone who “knows the affairs of the world.”

“America, So That’s What It’s Like!” takes the perspective of a Taiwanese author to share her various observations from living in the globally renowned nation of the United States. The first half of the book focuses on lighter, softer topics—mainly cultural and social differences in everyday aspects like food, clothing, housing, and transportation. The author vividly portrays the “American version” of these daily experiences, offering an eye-opening and engaging read.

A substantial portion of the middle chapters is devoted to discussions about U.S. President Donald Trump. Unlike the predominantly critical tone of mainstream Taiwanese media toward Trump, the author is relatively supportive of him and expresses strong dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party. This also prompts reflection on whether Taiwanese media may have lacked objectivity during the previous U.S. presidential election, potentially leading to an overly negative and distorted portrayal of the “Trump phenomenon.”

Overall, the book feels somewhat like a written, Chinese-language version of the variety show “Japan Ladies Be Surprised” often aired on Wei Lai Japan Channel. For those who may never have the chance to live in the United States but are curious about American culture, it’s a worthwhile read.

“In a capitalist society, anyone who has not become a capitalist is a failure.” This short sentence alone drew me headfirst into this book, which reads like an unconventional guide to midlife career planning.

As a salaried employee approaching my late thirties, I found myself quietly agreeing with the author while reading the first half. It reminded me of the famous line from the Japanese drama We Married as a Job: “Running away doesn’t solve the problem, but it works.” For middle-aged people, when the broader environment cannot be changed, isn’t living passively and self-protectively simply the only way life finds to go on?

However, the latter half of the book is regrettably marked by arguments that partially contradict the earlier claims. For example, it states that “the weapon of middle-aged people is that they have no future,” and therefore they can charge toward their goals without hesitation. This directly conflicts with the earlier idea that “being middle-aged means you should cling tightly to your company.”

In short, this is a book whose opening and concluding arguments feel confusing. More plainly put, it is essentially a life guide written for readers experiencing a midlife crisis. As for the inconsistencies, it’s unclear whether they stem from a shift in the author’s thinking or simply from translation issues. Whether it’s worth buying is subjective, but it did provide me with a brief and enjoyable reading experience.
